Inter-comparison of two regional climate models (RegCM and WRF) in downscaling CFSv2 for the seasonal prediction of Indian summer monsoon

The efficacy of two latest versions regional climate models (RegCM and WRF) for simulating the Indian summer monsoon (JJAS) is tested in this study. CFSv2 hindcast outputs are downscaled over domain 11 contrasting seasons using models. April start ensembles averaged to generate initial lateral boundary conditions driving WRF RegCM. perform better features than parent model. rainfall pattern as well intensities improved with dynamical downscaling errors minimized GCM hindcast. On comparing models, RegCM overestimates during excess normal seasons. RCMs improve skill prediction compared shows particular. One peculiar finding study that daily biases all years simulation show similar showing stronger occasionally. It may be implied from form ICBC might influencing RCMs. upper air surface parameters analysis performs representing meridional overturning lower atmospheric circulation, trough heat low north western India which prominent semi-permanent helping improving wind relative humidity along vertical column atmosphere captured Diagnostics CAPE & vertically integrated moisture transport supports being simulated
